Bat Integrative Literacy Unit

With Halloween so close, I thought it was a good time to share my Bat Unit!  This is a great way to integrate literacy and science.  Also, this unit has math, physical education, counseling, art, and technology standards covered!  Common Core aligned and fun to use!

Vocabulary Around the Room Activity- Gets kids moving and using their context clues!
High Frequency Words are also Going Batty!
Science and Literacy collide in this fun unit!
Oh Yeah!  Did I mention that all the lesson plans are included with the common core standard included!
This bat study from A Day in First Grade inspired me to create my own big CAN, HAVE, ARE Bat.  The fun labels were not included on her website, so I made some and put them in my bundle for you to easily print on bright paper and use!

Meet the Teacher

Today was Meet the Teacher! It was great meeting my new littles and getting all their stuff organized.  As you can see above, everyone organized their supplies into bins to add to our community containers [classroom reveal post coming soon].

Above are a few pictures of the 'Parents Table'.  Here they signed up to volunteer and fill out transportation information.  Also, the class wish list items were here.  Many parents liked being able to grab one item on a bright slip help out the class! These forms and the class wish list are included in the Meet the Teacher packet found [HERE].
My teammate and I had a flip book to discuss important information about our classrooms (flip book not included).  Also, the student gift is a free printable you can find [HERE].

This Welcome page was displayed on my SmartBoard to help parents and students work through Meet the Teacher by themselves, which left me free to greet and get to know everyone!

You can get your Meet the Teacher packet [HERE].

Also, start following me for some upcoming FREEBIES!

Exploring Figurative Language & Poetry Unit!

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Exploring-Figurative-Language-Poetry-Unit-1269228

This is a great unit that gets your learners' creative writing flowing!  One of the most important parts of learning poetry is understanding figurative language, so this unit truly focuses on how language in poetry is used.  Another way that the unit helps learners with thinking creatively is using a fun doodle warm up activity.
Students start with a small, obscure doodle, and they will turn it into whatever they see!  This was a loved activity!  Check out the fun doodles my littles made below:

Finally, this awesome unit includes great anchor charts for all the figurative language vocabulary.
This unit is a wonderful way to get your students excited about poetry!  Get yours by clicking the link below:
